Background

Women looking for work have even more hurdles to overcome as there is large gender gap in the workforce. Just 27% of women participate in the labour force at all, compared to 79% of me. Despite of the hurdles some women are so courageous that they are breaking out the veil system and scuff olds. There are beautiful clues to propose that if women are propelled and are given basic bolster they can accomplish new statures. Sardabai, a 33-year-old lady from Chota Guda village is also a role model for many other women in her village. She has two daughters and a son. Her husband is a taxi driver. She was married off at the age of 18 years. Fascinated by aspects of personal grooming she wanted to do a beautician course, but her early marriage and meager financial conditions were becoming a constraint on her aspirations. So keeping her interests aside, she choose to indulge herself in household chores.

The earlier situation

Sardabai joined SHG ‘Bhamreshi Mahila Bachat Samuh’ on 24th Nov 2016 and started organizing meetings. Till now her group’s saving is Rs 30,700 out of which her total saving is Rs. 3100. During the meetings and capacity building phase of SHGs, she aspired to make her childhood dream into reality thereby launched her own beauty salon. However she did not have adequate beauty kits and cosmic items for her salon.

The remarkable journey

Things have been changed when her group took Rs. 2,00,000/- loan from Rajasthan Marudhara Grameena Bank, Sakroda. She also took Rs. 28,000/ from her SHGs. After that she approaches a trainer for acquiring beauty parlor training. After completing training she established a competitive advantage salon with all material and equipments based on comparatively low prices and superior customer services. Even with business humming, Sarda found she had downtime during the day or in off season. That’s when she established a side-business embellishing artificial ornaments and gift items that’s now account 30% of her income.

Positive changes

She is especially busy during wedding season when everyone needs to be pampered to perfection. Hence together, her two streams of income bring in an average of INR 7000 per month that’s enough for changing a life, for her and family. With the growing reputation in family and community, she also encourages other women to startup a business of their own.
