When I Met Myself
How can a person meet herself?? Is it a hypothesis or a reality?? Can be hypothesis for some who don’t have as such purpose of existence. But it turns out to be a reality for those who have a purpose and any action renders them the ability to come closer to what they aspire!! When actions bring people closer to their aspirations, the outcome is a meeting; a person meets her or his soul!
Second Chance Education Program as an initiative has created a positive effect at various locations where it has been implemented. Jaisalmer is one such locations where Second Chance Education reached out in September 2019 which resulted into the mobilisation of women and subsequent creation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Meetings with Department of Women and Child Development (DWCD) recognised the actions which were being carried out in this program and allotted a stall in the five-day event; Amrita Haat Fair.
Second Chance Education Program since implementation has always looked forward to any initiative or platform which can embark positive transition in the lives of women. We at Manjari from our expertise understands the importance of such events and therefore we facilitated all the women artisans associated with Second Chance Education Program to unleash their potential. It was in February 2020; this event was organised.
The women participants were very excited to showcase their handicrafts such as key chains, cushion and pillow covers, bracelets, hand fans. Apart from this, several cultural competitions were also organised which enhanced the participation of women. The participants received appreciation certificates from noted dignitaries namely Mr Rajendra Chaudhary – Deputy Director (DWCD).
Sunita one of the participants and a beneficiary of Second Chance Education program says, “Second Chance Education initiative is assisting artisans. I express my gratitude for providing me a chance to unleash my skills. I wish to be a participant of every such initiative in future”. The women participants sold the procts and the total cumulative value of the items sold was INR 5630. This is not everything. The biggest take away for the women was the fact that they ended up discovering themselves.
