Set The Ball Rolling
Second Chance Program implemented by Manjari Foundation and supported by Pradan and UN Women has set the ball rolling for several women and its Pramila Karmakar, age 24 years, from Assam who is one of the beneficiaries of the same. As of now she is based out of Jaisalmer where she is working as a maid at the residence of an Airforce professional. Promilla is one of the six children of a mother who is a widow now.
She lost her father who got murdered in a family dispute. Out of six children of her mother she is the one of those two who haven’t married till date and thereby she holds a role of supporting her mother financially. She supports her mother with a contribution of INR 3K, and she earns an amount of INR 5K for working as a maid. Unfortunately owing to several family issues, her education got confined till 5th standard of the school. It was the intervention of Manjari Foundation which paved way for a positive change.
The moment she heard about the Second Chance Education Program, she developed an interest in the same and she got very keen to join the same for a better future. In 2019 she got her name enrolled under NIOS for 10th Standard examination and the day when she received the study kit, she got emotional. The happiness which she derived post receiving the same can’t be expressed in the words. It left her nostalgic. Motivation to study for a better future is driving her as of now and she is optimistic that she will!!
