“Habit is a good servant but a bad master” has been a well proven fact and it holds true for the case of plastic usage across the globe. Plastics has no doubt added convenience, but we can’t deny the fact that it is now also causing inconvenience to everybody who is a part of the ecosystem of the earth. Sakhi Project since inception is playing a vital role in socio economic development. The intervention of Sakhi project have created big impact at several locations. Apart from developmental works which are being carried out under Sakhi Project, Manjari Foundation firmly believes in bringing awareness among people regarding waste management system with a special focus on curbing plastic pollution.
Sakhi Project reached out to Chittorgarh district in Rajasthan in September 2016, which led to the creation of several women leaded institutions. Under Sakhi Project several initiatives were taken, and women were subjected to several trainings, workshops and interactions which started creating an impact at ground level. A group of 28 Sakhi Women were present for a monthly meeting of Sakhi Sangham Federation when Ms. Manisha Bhati from HZL addressed the women regarding plastic pollution and guided women on how to curb this menace. Her valuable insights motivated women to act further in this regard. She advocated to use paper bags or cloth bags.
The highly motivated women took an oath to work honestly in this regard. “Action speak louder than words” quote holds true for these women, who acted as messengers who passed on the message to SHG members and women of the village. They are change enablers and are facilitating the transition with their efforts.
