Social distancing is necessary to help limit the spread of the virus, but for the economically weaker sections of community the food insecurity is a much more serious issue than the disease itself. There are several families who are daily wage workers and they depend on daily earning for food. In the absence of livelihood & work opportunities, unfortunately these families are on their knees striving for getting essential food items.

To answer this challenge Sakhi Self-Help Groups across location, united together & responded with an initiative “Food Bank” to ensure no one sleeps hungry in their fellow group members & respective villages & community.

“SHG women Ensuring No One Sleeps Hungry by Collecting & Distributing Food Grains

Total, 3724 SHG members across locations have collected 200.67 Qt food grains in their SHGs with active participation of 85 Village Organizations while other SHGs & VO’s are also inspiring with the idea and planning for setting up more food banks with the same objective.

All these Sakhi SHG members decided to collect food grains like Maize, Wheat, Pulses, etc. at the VO level without violating the norms of social distancing. The main objective behind these food banks was to provide these dry grains at no cost to all poor & marginalized people who cannot afford it.
